Graduate Newsletter
For the first time, Council of Graduate Students has come up with a graduate newsletter which would be a lot of help to the graduate students. The graduate newsletter contains current research going on in the various departments, various technical articles and other useful information to the graduate students.CGS has released this newsletter both in paper and in the web. You can catch the e-version of the newsletter in the home page of the CGS website.

General Meetings in Spring 2009
The first general meeting in the spring semester 2009 was held on January 28th. The meeting was presided by Dr.Goodman (Director of Student Health Services). He talked about the services provided by the student health centre and also explained about the reduction of the operation hours of the clinic. Following that question answer session was held by the CGS representatives to which he responded patiently and cleared all the doubts of the students. The second general meeting was presided by Ms. Marcia Lane. She was invited to the meeting to talk about tax forms and other procedures related to tax filing.She talked about the forms that are required at the time of filing taxes. She informed the audience about tax treaties with some of the countries and procedure to get an exemption of tax (valid under tax treaty). She informed the students about the .TAX WORKSHOP. that will be held in Rolla on March 14, 2009. Her address was followed by a question & answer session.

General Meetings in Fall 2008
General Meetings of CGS in Fall 2008 went off well. The first meeting was presided by Ms. Lea-Ann Morton and the meeting was focused towards providing career opportunities for graduate students. The second meeting was presided by Ms. Carmina Ariolla. She gave valuable information about OPT workshops, CPT workshops, forms, guidelines and deadlines to be followed for these training. She also talked about various requirements to be fulfilled to avail training opportunities. She also talked about new rules being followed up for international students. She briefly discussed study abroad programs being run by International Affairs office. The third meeting was presided by Dr. Venkata Allada. He disscussed about the graduate studies office doing things for the graduate students. The fourth meeting was presided by Mr. Andrew Ronchetto who was the student body president and he gave an clear explanation of the budget cut in the university following that he answered various questions posted in the meeting.

Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration Stewardship Science Graduate Fellowship (DOE NNSA SSGF)11/01/07

This fellowship supports graduate students planning full-time study for a Ph.D. in areas of interest to stewardship science areas such as

  • High-energy density physics
  • Low-energy nuclear science or
  • Properties of materials under extreme conditions
  • Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens.

Budget and Student Fee Approval Process Changing
10/09/07

The Council of Graduate Students has recently changed the budget and student fee approval process. The budget will now be approved internally through CGS, but before the council can approve anything an open forum will be held on Thursday, October 18th at 5:00pm in Butler Carlton room 120 to discuss the proposed budget and fee. Please view the attached spreadsheet containing the proposed budget along with several past approved budgets before attending the forum; any questions or issues will be addressed at that time.

Council of Graduate Students (CGS) First General Meeting

Graduate Student Show Case

The Council of Graduate Students (CGS) conducted graduate showcase on April 4, 2007. About fifty graduate students showcased their research through poster presentations.
